David was a great help to us in Blyth Valley in carrying out a review of the VCS infrastructure support in the area. He has extensive knowledge of working in the sector and his final report helped us map out a way forward.

Training

My first foray into training was as a Co-operative Development Worker in the mid 1980s, designing and delivering enterprise skills courses to worker owned and controlled businesses. My understanding of how people learn was further developed during my six years as Programme Director with the national leadership organisation Common Purpose where I was responsible for designing a comprehensive learning programme for a diverse cross-section of senior representatives from the private, public and voluntary sectors. As a freelance trainer, I have developed and delivered a range of training courses, each designed to accommodate different preferred learning styles by using a mixture of presentation methods, group work, game play and practical exercises to maximise learning outcomes. From 2004 to 2007, I was involved as a senior tutor and “expert witness” on the national neighbourhood renewal training programme “Renewal Academy” in partnership with Renaisi Consulting and Northern College. The role involved developing and delivering courses in Programme Design and Delivery; Partnership Working and Leadership; Development, Management and Delivery of Local Area Agreements and Programmes and a range of bespoke training interventions to meet the needs of individual organisations and partnerships.

I am an Affiliate of the Institute for Learning and occasional tutor at the University of Hull (Social and Community Studies programme).

Although I have a continuing interest in developing bespoke training interventions, I am able to offer a range of competitively priced “off the shelf” training courses that reflect the culmination of several years of practical experience and development. Contact us here for further details.
